Equipment Needed

Springform Pan– Use an 8 inch or 9 inch pan.

Electric Mixer– We used a stand mixer but a hand mixer just as well.

Rubber Spatula– Use a rubber or silicone spatula.

Peeler– Use a vegetable peeler or paring knife.

Type Of Main Ingredient

Bob’s Red Mill– This brand of AP flour will work great for this recipe.

Granulated Sugar– Any grocery store sugar can be used for this recipe.

Trader Joe’s– This butter has the best flavor in my opinion.

Gala Apple– Use gala apples or pink lady

Greek Yogurt– For every cup of butter, used ½ cup of Greek yogurt as a substitute.

Cake Flour– Use in a 1:1 ratio to replace Ap flour but will result in the cake having a softer crumb texture.

Brown sugar– Substitute 1cup brown sugar for 1 cup white sugar, the sweetness will remain the same however the texture will be moister.

The Ingredients

  • Butter– creamed with the sugar
  • Granulated sugar– beaten with the butter until smooth and applied to the surface of the cake batter before baking.
  • Eggs– blended into the butter mixture
  • All-purpose flour– combined with the baking powder and added the egg mixture
  • Baking powder– added to the flour as a leavening agent.
  • Apple– peeled, sliced, and placed into the top of the cake before baking.
  • Powdered Sugar– used to dust the surface of the baked cake.

The Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F
  2. Using a non-stick cooking spray, grease the springform pan.
  3. Cream together the butter and sugar until light in color and smooth in texture.
  4. Blend in the eggs one at a time until fully incorporated.
  5. Add in the flour and continue blending until smooth.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking springform pan.
  7. Place the sliced apple on the cake batter, pressing down just enough to partially submerge them.
  8. Using 3 tbs of granulated sugar, sprinkle a thin layer of sugar on top of the batter and apples.
  9. Bake the cake for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  10. Remove the cake from the pan, cool, and dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Creaming Method

The first step in this recipe is creaming the butter and sugar. We start by beating the butter to softening it, then adding the sugar and continue beating. This process traps air into the mixture; this air acts as a raising agent during baking contributing not only to the increased volume of the cake but also the texture.

Adding The Eggs

Once the butter and sugar are creamed, the eggs are added one at a time to the mixture and blend evenly before adding the next, this prevents curdling. Another way of doing this is to crack all the eggs in one bowl and beat slightly. Add the beaten eggs to the butter mixture a little at a time and blend well between each addition.

The apple cake can be stored for up to 3 days at room temperature in an airtight container. To store for longer periods, wrap the cake in a layer of cling and foil, place it in an airtight container, and freeze. This can last for up to 3 months. Do not refrigerate as this will dry out the cake.

If you like apples, cake, and apple pie, you will love this recipe! it’s easy to make, quick to bake and the ingredients won’t break the bank. Did I mention that this cake is downright delicious? But don’t take my word for it, see for yourself!
